Can you get stronger lifting two days per week?

Yes, you actually CAN get stronger lifting two days a week.

Last month, I had a PT with a woman interested in getting into weightlifting.

When I explained that the introductory program starts with two sessions per week for the first four weeks, she didn’t believe she’d actually get better training just twice a week.

This was a woman in her 50s who hadn’t done any exercise in over 10 years. So I explained it like this: Going from zero days a week to two days a week is a 200% increase in how often you are currently training.

Now, don’t come at me with the reality of that maths but two sessions a week is enough time to start learning new skills, building strength and getting your body used to exercising again.

You don’t need to jump straight into training four or five days a week to see progress.

My plan was to start with two sessions a week, see how she handled it, and then increase the number of days if she was recovering well and wanted to do more.

Build a foundation first. Add more when you’re ready.

You don’t need to overhaul your entire life to start getting stronger.

You just need to start somewhere.

And two days a week is a great start.

(This is Rachael. She has been training twice a week for the last 18 months. She has shown slow and steady strength gains with no signs of that stopping any time soon!)
